M/V "Pacific Explorer"
Fast Ferry traffic in the US is likely to grow quickly
as shipyards enters into license agreement with international designers
with high-speed technology.
Mono-hull vessels as well as catamarans with service speed of 40 knots
plus will no doubt replace many of the conventional "double enders".
Keeping dead weight to a minimum for fast ferries is imperative. Fuel
costs sky rocket as weight increases.
British Columbia Ferry Corporation chose Geberit pipe systems for their 3
fast ferries for 200 cars and 1,000 passengers. HDPE pipe was used as
drainage pipe for gray and black water and as ventilation pipes. Geberit
Mepla was used for hot and cold potable water supply. The vessels were
built to DNV (Det Norske Veritas).
GEBERIT pipe systems greatly contribute to reducing weight and at the same
time maintaining strength GEBERIT HDPE pipes for drainage are virtually
indestructible. Pipes and fittings are joined by butt-welding or by
Electroweld Sleeve Couplings, both methods take only about one
minute. Installation costs are thus significantly lower than any other
drainage pipe system.
GEBERIT Mepla is type approved by ABS for maximum 290 PSI and maximum
water temperature of 194 degrees Fahrenheit.
